What was claimed
Blueprints AI of Santa Monica says it turns a sketch, photo or PDF into code-compliant construction drawings in minutes, ready to submit for a building permit.
What is actually there
The piece offers no independent tests, no benchmarks and no third-party check of accuracy or code compliance. The models were trained on eight years of approved drawings from the founder's own design-build firm, which is a small and not necessarily representative sample. The founders themselves concede that a licensed professional must review the documents and seal them before submission. Structural analysis and electrical panel design are only promised for version 3.
Why the headline misleads
"Permit-ready" sounds like a guarantee of approval, but the decision belongs to the local authority, and the piece does not discuss that step. The caveat about the architect's seal is quiet, while the price is loud: version 1 costs $3,200 to $8,500 a month. Minutes of generation do not save time if a person must still check every sheet, or if an error turns up on site. And the claim that architects spend 80 percent of their time drafting is the founder's own estimate, with no source.
Bottom line
The tool may speed up first drafts, but "permit-ready in minutes" is nicer than what has been shown. Until third-party tests appear, a promise is a promise.
