Google Launches a Single Shopping Cart Across Search and Gemini in the US

Universal Cart collects products from different stores, tracks prices and restocks, and helps at checkout.

Google has opened Universal Cart to users in the US. The shopping tool works across Search and the Gemini app, and was first previewed at Google I/O in May 2026.

How it works

Anything you find while searching or chatting with Gemini can be dropped into the cart and picked up later, with saved items and progress intact. The cart pulls from multiple retailers, so it acts as one place for everything you are considering.

Google says it can alert you when a saved product drops in price or when a sold-out item returns. At checkout it can take credit card perks into account and surface promo codes.

What sits behind checkout

Payment runs through the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard Google introduced earlier this year to help AI agents and retailers work together across the buying journey. The cart joins Google's other AI shopping features: conversational product discovery in AI Mode, and a tool where an agent phones nearby stores to check stock.

The announcement leaves out the list of participating retailers, data-handling details and any timeline for markets beyond the US.
